 CORAL REEFS & MANGROVES

CORAL REEFS

Coral Reefs are under water ecosystem. Actually they are formed by the coral polyphs. Coral polyphs are not plants they are animals. They posses an exoskeleton structures on their body which is made up of calcium corbonate(caco3). They are not mobile in nature(sessile). They are Stagnant. Another imortant thing is, Coral reefs need sunlight to grow.
They are act as protection barriers by protecting coastal lines from the storms and prevent Soil Erosion. They are also called as nature's water filteration system. And another important thing here is, It provides jobs for local communities, offers opportunity for recreation.

These are useful in medicine manufacturing and used as food source nearly half billion people on this earth literally depend on the coral reefs. That's why it's significance is increased.

MANGROVES

Mangroves are also protects the costal lines from soil erosion and from the storms. It helps in the formation of sediments due to root holds. These roots are slow down the water streams and make the soil to settle down and forms the sediments. It provides socio-economic benefits like Timber, Fish, Tourism opportunities and Environmental services.
These are act as Carbon Sinks provide livelihoods work like natural coastal defense. They encourage ecotourism, they are rich in bio-diversity.
Since it is a Ecotone, It is rich in species. They protect inhabitants from storms and work as biofilters from nutrients.
