 Annelida Phylum of animalia kingdom

Phylum Annelida is one of the important among the 11major phyla in the kingdom animalia which comes under invertebrates. examples of these are Earthworms, Leeches, Polychaete, clitelata, etc.

Annelids are also known as ringworms or segmented worms, there are nearly 17000 species in this group. they show bilateral entry. Bilateral symmetry means arranging similar anatomical parts on the opposite sides of a median axis..i.e; if we divide an annelid into two parts, then the divided parts are identical to one another.

Annelids can survive in various environments like marine waters, fresh waters, moist terrestrial areas and terrestrial areas. they are about 0-3 meters size. They are coelomate(a body cavity) and triploblastic. They have parapodia, chitinous setae used for locomotion. they consists of hoemoglobin which made them appear red.

Annelid geneally divided into four classes and those are:

1. oligochaeta(Earthworms)

2.Hirudinea(Leeches)

3.Polychaeta(Polychaetes)

4.Archiannelida(polygordius)

We will discuss the four classes in details in the later posts...
